Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Much of our life can be wrapped up in feelings about the past or future and directed by moods and reactions.  We are rarely present or connected in the here-and-now.  Mindfulness encourages your non-judgemental awareness; being present to what’s going on in you and the world.  You effectively (consciously) come to life!

The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Programme is a course of 2-hour sessions over 8 weeks.  On this course, through the practice of meditation, reflection and gentle movement, you learn natural new ways to handle emotions, social interaction, physical sensations or moods.  You gain a wealth of skills for life and an enhanced quality of life.

Through this course you gain:

  • the self-assurance to be present and engage more positively with the world
  • insight, ease and clarity to deal with stressful situations
  • confidence, empowerment and creativity – choice!
  • emotional clarity, alertness and understanding

You will learn:

  • how to meditate  -  and therein will develop insight
  • how to bring some distance - detachment and
  • perspective to your thoughts and feelings
  • to listen and communicate with clarity
  • to appreciate yourself and others unconditionally

Your commitment to practice the techniques daily will ensure that you get the most from the course.  Encouragement and support is naturally offered and the accompanying workbook plus CD’s will help you in your daily/continuing practice. Your simple everyday activities (showering, eating, a phone-call) can be done mindfully and will build your confidence!  After completing the 8-week course, you are invited to a day (6-hour) session to support and deepen your practice.  Everyone has an individual consultation before making a commitment.

MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION (MBSR) is developed for people suffering from stress, stress-related conditions and chronic pain by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre over 25 years ago.  Furthermore, the roots of Mindfulness are recorded in time-honoured Eastern philosophy and the practice of meditation has existed as long as humans have existed.

NICE* - recommends the course where people have had severe episodes of clinical depression in order to significantly reduce the likelihood of future relapse.
